Yup, I know a pretty strange Title for a post but what I am going to discuss is equally strange
Problem:
I didn’t face this problem in Siebel 7.7 but I have been facing this problem in Siebel 7.8.2.3 pretty regularly. The problem is that
“Siebel Application hangs (mouse remains in hour glass state) and you have to kill the session using Task Manager while working with popup or pick applets”
You might face this problem while
- Exporting records using vanilla export option
- Uploading a file in attachment applet.
- Downloading file from attachment applet
This happens especially when the file which is being downloaded or uploaded is large file. To make this simple I am giving an example below where you might face this problem
I need to export the some LOV records. Here are the steps that I perform.
- Query for my desired records.
- Click on Menu – Export Option.
- A popup applet appears as shown below

- Click on Next button
- A prompt comes asking us to open or save the file.
- Choose save option
And after saving the file, focus never returns and you get your mouse icon as hour glass. You have to end that session using task manager to come out of it.
Solution:
At first it looks like an High Interactivity Framework problem. I tried
- Removing and resintalling High Interactivity Framework
- Updating the JRE version
- Tweaking with IE settings
but nothing seems to work and that solution which I found out in the end was
- Hit CTRL + 8 key
- Move your mouse
It will come out of slumber and you can work normally in application. That’s strange I know.
Reason:
It is actually an IE bug (
)but I came to know about it accidently and that too is different story all together. I will save it for another post.
Hope it helps and results in less session killing

Hi,
Can you please explain solution in detail
should i press Ctrl+8 after clicking save option in export screen
Are you facing the problem ??
You need to press ctrl + 8 once you mouse gets stuck in hour glass state. That usually happens after you downlad or upload a file.
While file is uploading or downloading mouse goes into hour glass state and it never comes back from it after the process.
Hope that clears up any doubts that you have
this works..but,…
but after you move out of this hung over state and do the export again..nothing comes in the exported excel file.( No Data).
Please suggest.
One More Solution is there for this Type of Problem.
First You Need to Open that and after that file is Opened you Can Save it.
Well, I have got a permanant solution to it….
what I observed was the time the export issue hangs, the drive in which siebel server was installed was falling short of space.
I cleared some of space on the drive and it started working good.
So, this happens when you try to export and buffer or intermediatary space falls short..so it hangs.
I tried this in mutiple environments after filling up and clearing up the space and I could reproduce and resolve the problem.
