Siebel How To – Create Inbound and Outbound Webservice?

I was fortunate enough early in my carrer to get a chance to work on Siebel EAI. It was the first implementation of Web Services in our project. So, had to struggle a lot to understand basics of web service. But I always from my school time had intrest in XML and Web so understanding that part was not that difficult but I really had to work hard to understand web services from Siebel Prespective. I am thankful to God now that there was nobody to guide me at that time which resulted in terrific learning and understanding of a fact

‘Siebel is Huge’ like a sea and what I have explored till now is not even 10% of whole Siebel.

During my days working on Siebel Web Services I created a Powerpoint Presentation (PPT) which had minimum steps that you need to perform to create Inbound and Outbound Service with Screen Shots. Which I would like to share with you all. It can act as a your guide to check If you are missing any steps in creating Web Service. It is not a comprehensive guide but just a tutorial to give you insight and to point you to the right direction if you are involved in EAI.Click on the Link Below to download the PPT.

  7. Amzad B says:

    Hi,

Am also able to download the PPT.

But unfortunately with Siebel EAI things won’t be going as we design the solution. So please do send a clear explanation related to Web Services if possible.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Amzad B.

  8. neel says:

what kind of explaination do you require?

PPT contains just a simple generic procedure for creating a inbound and outbound webserivce. That is just to provide you with startup infomation. You will have to put enhancement according to your requirement.

If you could clearly state your requirement then I might be able to help you more :)

  9. Amzad B says:

    Hi Neel,

    Thanks for your Quick Response.

    Requirement:
Need to read XML from Ext app and create a SR and invoke the assignment manager. And SR also will have the notes and Attachments.

    How to accompleish this.?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Amzad B.

  10. neel says:

There are several ways to do it

but a lot will depend on what external system can support. If attachments are coming into picture then the best option is to use middleware such as tibco or webmethods as heavy attachments can result in time out or errors in email.

But you can also use HTTP transport service to receive that XML and just use an integration object to insert it in siebel.

This will probably require a proper design analysis. Will try to give you some pointers on how to design this through a post.

have gone through the ppt, have covered all the points quite clearly from the perspective off HTTP transport method..However have gone through the bookshelf, felt only one point was missed in,so thought of adding it up :

Add the following user properties for this business service and set their values based on the outbound service port of your Web Service:
    siebel_port_name : Default
siebel_web_service_name : have the same name as proxy BS
siebel_web_service_namespace : namespace of the BS

    Hi,

Can I get help regarding outbound webservice, which I am working on that rightnow.Let me explain my requirement. I have to send requests from siebel to pull the data from external application(Cvent management system).when i send the request every time, I have to send Session id with in that request, then only i will get response.Because session id expires in 1 hour.
I have to do 4 request calls.the firstone Login call got successful and I got the Session id .But when I am doing the second request along with the session id, I am not able to send the session id.I created a Siebel operation with update operation after the Login workflow to store that session id and after the siebel operation, I put that subprocess(Search call)to pass that session id into that subprocess. Can anyone help me ,how I have to pass that session id every time, when I send the request call. Its really urgent for me. My job depends on this, I mean I have to deliver it within one week.

    Thanks in Advance – Kumar

    Hi there,

I am a webMethods developer and designing an interface between webMethods and Siebel. The requirement is that webMethods need to send an image file (GIF) to Siebel. We are planning to implement web service and send the image file as an attachment. Is it possible to receive attachments in Siebel through web services or Is there a more efficient way of doing this.

    Thanks in advance…
