There are a number of issues with the 7.8.2.10 patch. This patch finally provides Vista IE7 compatibility in 7.8 (after a couple of abortive attempts in 7.8.2.7 and 7.8.2_8) and cleans up some issues with IE7 in XP, but there are new, introduced errors of which all should be aware before going down this road.

  • Quick Fix QF0A03 is required to get the Calendar to work. Without this QF, clicking on the Calendar link on the Home page will crash the browser.
  • The Actuate Report Server will not successfully retrieve data for reports run from the Reports menu in the Web Client. It works correctly in the Developer Web Client, but Siebel does not recommend the Developer Web Client for day-to-day use. So, the fact that it works in the Developer Web Client is merely of academic interest.
  • Similarly, some as yet unidentified change in the Siebel EAI Adapter has killed a number of our workflows that provide integration between Siebel and an external service provider.

Oracle’s response to the second issue is that a Change Request has been raised and a QF is expected to address the problem. I suspect that this will also adddress the EAI Adapter issue as, on the surface, these two issues seem to have a common element.

My recommendation is not to install the 7.8.2.10 patch unless you really need the Vista compatibility and are prepared to lose some workflow and reports functionality. Many of our reports are executed in workflows and these function without problems.

I am working on my own solution for the reports issue. This consists of sticking with the 7.8.2.5 (with QF0547) reports server. My testing so far indicates that it’s interoperable with the 7.8.2.10 Siebel server and overcomes the issues introduced with the 7.8.2.10 reports server patch

The proviso is that the changes recommended by the ACR 323 implementation instructions in the Maintenance Release Guide (Revision N) have not been incorporated into the repository.
