GrandChildView – giving a new look to Product Configurator UI
By neel | February 12, 2008
If anybody has worked on Product Configurator he will have an idea that the default way to customize a product is to select that product and then drill down on that product to fill in its attributes.
But when the product is 5-6 level deep then it could be a really irritating to customize these products. To explain this scenario I will give an example. Let’s assume a product hierarchy
- Product A has 5 attributes and 2 child products (Child1 and Child2)
- Child1 has 3 attributes and 2 child products (GChild1 and Gchild2)
- GChild1 has 5 attributes
So If I have to enter values in GChild1 then I have to select Product A – Child1 – Gchild1 then I will have to drill up or down between these products which is very irritating if the number of sub products and their attribute is very large
So, the solution for this problem is enabling the Grand child View for product configurator. This will enable us to see the products on a single page rather than drill down on each product to see its attributes and sub products.
I will upload a PDF soon explaining the whole procedure of enabling the grand child view for product configurator. Keep reading ![]()

Hi,
I have a query: How do you display a product that has levels deeper than GrandChild. For Example:
a) A product A has components - Child1 and Child2
b) Child2 has sub components - GChild1 and GChild2
c) GChild2 has sub components - GGChild1 and
GGChild2
D) and so on to lower Levels
