When I started this blog back in 2007 then there were not many websites related to Siebel but today there are plenty available. All these sites including mine (or most of them) have one thing in common, they mostly discuss Siebel in technical terms.

If you try to find something non technical about Siebel you don’t get any useful information. For example I have been trying to find something about usage of Siebel in Financial Domain. I needed answer to questions like:

  • Which Siebel Application is used for financial domain?
  • What are major entities that we use in those applications?
  • How many projects out there are using Siebel Financial Application?
  • What is the Functional flow of a Financial Application?

There are lot of questions like these, for which I want an answer. I want to move ahead from technical aspects of Siebel and look at a bigger picture. A birds eye view from 30,000 feet which gives me idea of complete picture and help me visualize a complete CRM solution.

Finding answers to these questions is not easy as it is not possible for one person to work on all these modules and domains, but if we work together we can get answers to these questions. I have had a chance to work on Sales, Call Center and Marketing module. I will share my experience and functional information about these modules but for rest of modules and applications you guys have to contribute.

In next few days I will be putting articles discussing functional aspects of these applications and I hope some of you will share your experience and provide insight of different Siebel Applications. I also going to start a survey to collect some data regarding various application that will help us to put together facts and figures about usage of Siebel in various areas. Please do take part in the survey!

Definitely a great idea. Mostly what you can find in the internet is documents that are so high level and good for siebel salespeople not end user documents that you can really have an idea of the functionalities out of the box.

  • Sometimes plain English can be pretty confusing as well. I was having a hard time understanding what you mean by "domain" in your post. I finally decided you mean a specialization or field of interest. It was difficult for me because I usually understand "domain" in technical terms.

That's the trouble with us technical people. We sometimes don't understand plain English!

This will be a great initiative to read on.. We learn technical details. But, we get very less functional knowledge. By luck few of us get exposure to understand the functional part, that too specific to our business domain only. So, go ahead!! We are with you..

I worked in both telecom & healthcare domain, most of the modules are same only.. sales, service, opportunity, quote etc..

Waiting for inputs to understand the differences in these domains & vanilla functionality..

    Hi,

It is definitly a very good initiative. I believe functional understanding of the application is equally important to technical one.

    Would be looking forward.

so please go ahed in posting application functionalies. In Sibel We can fine lots of people on technically good but functionaly it very rare to find.

    Hi Neel,

Its really a good initiative. We usually limit our knowledge upto technical aspect only. Most of us knows Siebel Technically and treat Siebel like other programming language and start developing huge customize application, instead of exploring Siebel's Out of box functionality. Eventhough people work in Siebel project for 2-3 years they dont know the functional aspect of the application and which lead them to the customization instead of Siebel's vanilla functionality. Selecting right application for your project is very important, which may reduce the customization code in Siebel.

    Cheers,
    Jimit

ok, but we want that technical info. Who cares about applications that you will never come up with? Only few people.
I strongly disagree with heading this way.
However it is your page, anyway good luck neelmani.
